Bahá’í World Centre – librarians, archivists & conservators required

There is an ongoing need at the Baha’i World Centre for librarians, archivists, and conservators who possess the relevant training and experience
to fill the following positions:

Librarian
The role of Librarian requires a relatively recent degree in library and information science or equivalent professional qualifications, experience working in multiple areas of a library, (e.g. management, systems/technologies, cataloguing, reference, circulation) and a strong learning orientation. Knowledge and experience in cataloguing are highly desirable.

Book Conservator
The Book Conservator performs conservation treatments on a wide variety of the Baha’i World Centre’s library collections. Examines and analyzes collection materials, performs treatment and prepares treatment reports. Requires a graduate degree from a recognized conservation-training program, with a specialization in rare book conservation. Conservators with similar training and practical experience, without the degree, may be considered. Good writing and interpersonal skills are required.

Conservator
The Conservator performs conservation work on the full range of library and archival paper materials at the Baha’i World Centre. Manages the preservation and conservation of archival documents and works of art from the Archives, Library, Audio-Visual and Holy Places offices.

Conservation Scientist
The Conservation Scientist provides scientific and technical advice and support to the conservation staff. Initiates research and responds to requests from conservators, curators, librarians and archivists in the study, treatment and preservation of the collections. Requires a graduate degree from a recognized conservation-training program, with a specialization in Conservation Science. The candidate should manifest initiative, tact, good judgment, flexibility, and excellent human relations skills.

Digital Imaging and Restoration Specialist
The Digital Imaging and Restoration Specialist digitally preserves, restores and generates facsimiles of the works of art on paper that are on display throughout the Baha’i World Centre’s Shrines and Holy Places. Requires a background in graphic arts, photography, and digital imaging technologies and colour management. Expertise in Adobe Photoshop and other software for image manipulation is essential. Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as sensitivity to the handling issues of library, archival and museum materials required.
