Organ donation – change to the law
The law around organ donation is changing. From spring next year, people 18 and over who live and pass away in England will be considered as potential organ donors, unless they have recorded that they don’t want to donate – this is referred to as ‘opted out’ – or are in one of the groups that are exempted from the law. The law is also expected to change in Scotland, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man, which are at a different stage of the legislative process.
NHS Blood and Transplant has been engaging with a number of faith organisations, including the Bahá’í community, to improve the faith-based information available on its website. This has now been published here >. If the friends have any further questions about organ donation, please contact nsa@bahai.org.uk.
