Re: Secretariat Aide position, Bahá’í Council for England

Dearly loved friends,

The Regional Bahá’í Council for England is pleased to invite members of the community to consider applying for a service opportunity that has arisen within its secretariat office as Secretariat aide, starting at the beginning of September, 2017, but with the possibility to start earlier.

The role will be primarily based in the Hazíratu’l-Quds (National Bahá’í Centre) at 27 Rutland Gate in London.

It is a full-time role with remuneration/salary to enable the aide to carry out this service. The hope is that the successful candidate will be able serve for a minimum of 2 years.

You would be joining an existing team made up of the Regional Council Secretary and another administrative aide, replacing another aide who has been serving on a temporary basis.

The following role and remit of the position of Secretariat aide would take place under the direction of and in collaboration with the Regional Council Secretary, on behalf of the Regional Council.

This excerpt from the document Insights from the Frontiers of Learning, from the International Teaching Centre, is helpful with regard to the scope of the work of the Council’s secretariat office:

“Along with their responsibilities in the field, Regional Councils are carrying out an array of administrative duties. They are trying to put into place efficient systems and mechanisms to
ensure the flow of funds, information, learning, and human resources, such as pioneers. The scope of the work of Council Secretaries, which includes overseeing administrative and field
operations and, in some cases, properties, is increasing, requiring many to devote hours
equivalent to full-time service. In order to manage the wide range of tasks, well- functioning offices with support staff are emerging.”

Cognisant of the work at hand in achieving the lofty goals of this Five Year Plan, the following, are amongst the qualities and capacities that have been identified as crucial to the work of the aide:

  • an understanding of the work of the Plan;
  • the capacity to work with qualitative and quantitative information;
  • good communicative skills;
  • some experience in working with systems and procedures in an office environment;
  • the capacity to digest and analyse large quantities of information;
  • strong writing skills;
  • organisation and initiative;
  • the ability to travel occasionally within England.

The Council would be delighted to receive applications from friends who feel they could offer their skills to further develop the infrastructure and processes of the Council’s secretariat.

Any believer applying for this role, is kindly asked to submit his or her Curriculum Vitae together with a covering letter, detailing the reasons for their application to Council Secretary, 21 Lowther Street, York, YO31 7LA, or by email to bce.secretary@bahai.org.uk

The closing date for applications is Friday, 20th August, 2017. Interviews will take place shortly thereafter. Your prayerful consideration of this opportunity for service is deeply appreciated by the Council for England.

Rest assured that the fervent prayers of the Council surround all the individual and collective efforts of the community of the Most Great Name, as we arise to a new level of functioning necessary to answer the call from our beloved Supreme Body, as described in their 29th December 2015 Message:

The coming global endeavour to which the friends will be summoned calls for the application of proven strategies, systematic action, informed analysis, and keen insight. Yet above all, it is a spiritual enterprise, and its true character should never be obscured. The urgency to act is impelled by the world’s desperate condition. All that the followers of Bahá’u’lláh have learned in the last twenty years must culminate in the accomplishments of the next five.

With abiding love,
Ronnie Y. Bindra,
Secretary
Bahá’í Council for England
