To all believers in the United Kingdom

Dearly loved Friends,

The position of Custodian at the National Hazíratu’l-Quds remains open. The National Spiritual Assembly would like to earnestly invite the friends to consider whether they could serve in this capacity. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve by ensuring that the Hazíratu’l-Quds, which is the warm heart of the Bahá’í community, is cared for and maintained such that its beauty and spirit are the cause of attraction and fill the hearts and souls of all who enter it.

Given the challenge the National Assembly is having in filling this role, there is considerable flexibility in adjusting it to the availability of the right applicant.

There are two core aspects of the Custodian’s role:

  • a ‘home-making’ role, taking responsibility for ensuring high standards of cleanliness and beauty in the premises, and for fostering a warm, courteous and hospitable atmosphere for visitors. The maintenance and repair of the building is largely managed by others.
  • to be on hand to ensure the smooth operation of the building during the weekends when the National Assembly is meeting.

These two core aspects amount to a part-time role taking up three days per week, on average, but other time frames can be considered.

There is scope to extend the Custodian role to become a full-time if that would make it possible to recruit the right applicant. In this case, the Custodian would in addition train and co-ordinate the services of the reception and hospitality volunteers, and oversee the operation and development of the bookshop.

Whether full or part-time, the role requires a caring and loving attitude combined with the ability to take initiative. Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others are essential.

This is a non-residential role; there is no requirement (or possibility) for the Custodian to live at the National Hazíratu’l-Quds.

A salary is offered to enable a successful applicant to carry out their service. As with all service to the Faith, there is also the opportunity to undertake it on a voluntary basis or part-voluntary basis. The initial service period would normally be for two years.

Individuals who would like to apply for this position are asked to kindly submit a copy of their Curriculum Vitae, together with a letter sharing their reasons for applying for this service, to the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of the UK, 27 Rutland Gate, London SW7 1PD or by email to nsa@bahai.org.uk. The Coordinator of Services, who is available to answer questions about these roles, can be contacted by telephone at the National Office or by email at services@bahai.org.uk.

Your prayerful consideration of this opportunity to serve in this valued role is deeply appreciated.

With loving Bahá’í greetings,

Patrick O’Mara
Secretary
