Dearly loved Friends,

In two weeks’ time, we will once more be blessed with commemorating the Day of the Covenant as well as the Ascension of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá,

that moment when the beloved Master was released from the confines of this world to rejoin His Father in the retreats of celestial glory…”1

The Universal House of Justice, To the Bahá’ís of the World, Riḍván 2019

The Day of the Covenant begins at sunset on Tuesday 24 November; the Ascension of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá on Friday 27 November at 1am. While there is no obligation to abstain from work on these Holy Days, the friends are encouraged to gather by whatever means possible – most likely online this year – to recall the life of the Master.  Reflecting upon the power of the Covenant, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá Himself wrote:

“Today no power can conserve the oneness of the Bahá’í world save the Covenant of God; otherwise differences like unto a most great tempest will encompass the Bahá’í world. It is evident that the axis of the oneness of the world of humanity is the power of the Covenant and nothing else. Had the Covenant not come to pass, had it not been revealed from the Supreme Pen and had not the Book of the Covenant, like unto the ray of the Sun of Reality, illuminated the world, the forces of the Cause of God would have been utterly scattered and certain souls who were the prisoners of their own passions and lusts would have taken into their hands an axe, cutting the root of this Blessed Tree. Every person would have pushed forward his own desire and every individual aired his own opinion!“2

‘Abdu’l-BaháTablets of the Divine Plan

With the centenary of the Ascension of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá but one year away – coinciding as it does with the culmination of the completion of the first century of the Formative Age of the Faith – individuals, communities and institutions will no doubt wish to begin to consider how to mark this momentous anniversary, which will seal

one hundred years of consecrated effort to consolidate and expand the foundation so sacrificially laid during the Faith’s Heroic Age.”3

The National Spiritual Assembly sends you its most loving regards, and wishes you well for the spiritually uplifting and meaningful commemoration of these Holy Days.

With loving Bahá’í greetings,

Patrick O’Mara,
Secretary
