To all believers in the United Kingdom

Dearly loved friends,

The National Spiritual Assembly is pleased to share with you, news of a part-time service position that has opened up at the National Hazíratu’l-Quds in London. The position being advertised is for the role of caretaker of the National Hazíratu’l-Quds.

Please find below a short service description for this role.

Caretaker of the National Hazíratu’l-Quds

The caretaker is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and beauty in the premises and for assisting with the operations of the facilities within the building. The caretaker is also responsible for fostering a warm, courteous and hospitable atmosphere for those serving and for those visiting. As such the role requires one to have a caring and loving attitude combined with the ability to take initiative in the day-to-day maintenance of the building. The role also requires proven skills in the management and maintenance of property. Good communication skills and an ability to work with people are essential in order to train and co-ordinate the services of volunteers. It would be highly advantageous if the post-holder has the ability to carry out minor repair and maintenance work.

Dear friends, as you are aware, the primary function of the National Hazíratu’l-Quds is to serve as the seat of the National Spiritual Assembly and the administrative centre of the Faith in the United Kingdom.  The Universal House of Justice have told us that for this community its function also includes serving “as the central spiritual home of the British Bahá’í community” and “as a rallying point for the friends and a centre of unity.”  Further, they advise that it is a “point towards which the friends would naturally gravitate when they visit London, both British Bahá’ís and those from overseas.”  With London having a position as an important international centre, the premises have a vital additional dimension as “a place in which eminent visitors, representatives of the medial and the general public can be received.”  The building, therefore, plays an important part in the life of the community and the role of caretaker is central to this.

This is a 3-days a week, part-time position.  As with all service to the Faith, there is also the opportunity to undertake it on a voluntary basis or part-voluntary basis, and for those who require it a salary is available to enable the successful candidate carry out the service.  The initial service period is two-years, subject to review at the end of the period.

Individuals who would like to apply for this post are asked to kindly submit a copy of their Curriculum Vitae, together with a letter sharing their reason for applying for this service to the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of the UK, 27 Rutland Gate, London SW7 1PD, or by email to nsa@bahai.org.uk

The National Assembly ardently hopes that Bahá’ís from far and wide will offer to take up this service to our beloved Faith.  Please share this communication with those who may not have access to NEWS.

With loving Bahá’í greetings,

Patrick O’Mara,
Secretary
