To all believers in the United Kingdom

Dearly loved Friends,

The National Spiritual Assembly was saddened to learn of the passing to the Abhá Kingdom of its dear former member Carolyn Wade.  Carolyn served on the National Assembly from 1990 until January 2000, when she was called to serve at the Bahá’í World Centre.

Born in the United States, Carolyn trained as a physical geographer and had a keen appreciation of the environment and its protection.  She applied her scientific skills to her service to the Faith, combining accuracy and precision with her creative and intuitive abilities in all that she did.

When elected to the National Assembly, she was immediately elected Treasurer and devoted herself to this task.  She also served as a representative, and later a deputy Trustee, for Ḥuqúqu’lláh, a service she carried out with both love and integrity.

During her years at the Bahá’í World Centre, Carolyn served in the Department of Finance. She then pioneered to Kampala in Uganda, where she served on the Local Spiritual Assembly and in the national Treasury Office.  She was a source of inspiration for the youth around the city, and her home was a source of joy to all.

Upon hearing of her passing, the Universal House of Justice—in a letter written on its behalf of today’s date—conveyed the following to the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Uganda:

The Universal House of Justice was saddened to learn from your email letter dated 13 April 2021 of the passing of Carolyn Wade, stalwart handmaiden of the Abhá Beauty.  Her many years of dedicated service to the Faith, including as a member of the National Spiritual Assembly of the United Kingdom and an international pioneer to your country, as well as her valued contribution as a staff member at the Bahá’í World Centre, are remembered with fond admiration.  Kindly convey to her family members the heartfelt condolences of the House of Justice and assure them of its supplications at the Sacred Threshold for the progress of her illumined soul in the heavenly realms.  Prayers will also be offered that the members of her family may find peace and tranquillity at this time of loss.

Carolyn spent her entire Bahá’í life serving the Faith she loved so deeply.  Her profound understanding of the Bahá’í writings, her well-trained mind, skills, energy, diligence, and devotion were combined with a twinkling sense of humour, compassion and care for others, and a world-embracing vision.  As she said of herself, she loved “living life to the full”.

The National Spiritual Assembly will offer prayers for the progress of Carolyn’s radiant soul in all the worlds of God and for the comfort of her family during this difficult time.

With loving Bahá’í greetings,

Patrick O’Mara,
Secretary
