To all believers in the United Kingdom

Dearly loved Friends,

The National Spiritual Assembly sends you its warmest love and greetings.

In the Kitáb-i-Aqdas, Bahá’u’lláh instructs every believer to write a will:

Unto everyone hath been enjoined the writing of a will. The testator should head this document with the adornment of the Most Great Name, bear witness therein unto the oneness of God in the Dayspring of His Revelation, and make mention, as he may wish, of that which is praiseworthy, so that it may be a testimony for him in the kingdoms of Revelation and Creation and a treasure with his Lord, the Supreme Protector, the Faithful.

The Kitáb-i-Aqdas, p. 59

The National Assembly has recently updated the guidance notes pertaining to the making of wills.  The three documents are:

  • Making your will                                                        Download PDF     Read online
  • Guidance notes for executors                                     Download PDF     Read online
  • Notes for solicitors preparing wills for Bahá’ís         Download PDF     Read online

The notes in particular include: revised guidance on how to make provision in one’s will for the payment of Ḥuqúqu’lláh of any amount due at the time of one’s death; revised guidelines for solicitors; and also, importantly, guidance for executors of wills which includes how to act in the case where a Bahá’í omits to include a provision in their will for the payment of Ḥuqúqu’lláh.

It is hoped that these notes will offer a more complete direction regarding the payment of Ḥuqúqu’lláh, and enable solicitors and executors – who may not be Bahá’ís – to understand the law better so that it can be observed.

The National Assembly hopes that all the believers will avail themselves of this opportunity to ensure for themselves “a testimony…in the kingdoms of Revelation and Creation and a treasure with his Lord, the Supreme Protector, the Faithful.

With loving Bahá’í greetings,

Patrick O’Mara
Secretary
