Dearly loved Friends,

With grieved hearts, we share with you news of the murder of Farhang Amírí, a devoted believer from Yazd, Iran. Mr. Amírí was viciously attacked by two men on 26 September 2016 and passed away shortly afterwards. Those who committed this foul deed indicated that they had carried out the attack because they knew Mr. Amírí was a Bahá’í.

The Universal House of Justice issued a letter dated 19 October 2016 to the Bahá’ís in Iran in connection with this heinous crime, which includes reflections on Mr. Amírí’s life of inspiring, humble service. Please find enclosed copies of this letter in both the original Persian language and in an authorised English-language translation.

A report on this attack, including the lamentable context of the effort of the Iranian authorities to incite hatred against the Bahá’ís in Iran, can be found on the Bahá’í World News Service at: http://news.bahai.org/story/1133

The National Spiritual Assembly is sure that the friends will wish to join it in offering prayers on behalf of Mr. Amírí and his family and loved ones, and indeed on behalf of all the long-suffering believers in Iran, whose spirit of loving sacrifice contrasts so sharply against the darkness of bigotry.

With loving Bahá’í greetings,

Patrick O’Mara,
Secretary
