North of England – Salford
Saturday 9 – Monday 11 April 2022

Around 400 friends from across the north of England gathered at the first sub-regional conference, held on the University of Salford campus.  New friendships were made, and older ones reinforced.  All participants felt their collective vision, understanding and sense of mission strengthen.

Some 20 friends from the neighbourhoods in Manchester also participated and expressed how touched they were by the spirit of the gathering, sharing accounts of their journey towards – and alongside – the community.  They will soon have their own neighbourhood conference.

Different age groups came together in the workshops.  There was much music, dancing and joy. Some 60 Iranian friends joined a Persian-speaking group.

One participant said, “We felt the power of the Supreme Body. The language was open and the spirit carried us all along.  We were all in ecstasy.”

Woodberry neighbourhood – London
Saturday 9 – Sunday 10 April 2022

More than 100 friends – including 35 children and 39 youth – participated in the first neighbourhood level conference in the UK.  Following plenary sessions including sung prayers, participants divided into sessions for families, for children and for junior youth.  Those teaching and animating were largely youth and older junior youth from the neighbourhood who had themselves been through the junior youth programme.

A large group of Turkish families participated in the conference.  After the first day, one of the Turkish mothers invited a wider group of her friends, who joined the conference on the second day.  The materials studied explored the importance of education as well as questions related to overcoming prejudice, particularly towards women.

Within the Turkish group, there was a strong attraction amongst the parents to the Word of God and they hoped to be able to read more passages from the Writings of the Faith and hear prayers sung.  Having meals together, learning to dance from the Turkish mothers and then dancing and singing together brought joy and laughter to all participants.
