Aide to the Office of Public Affairs

As part of a growing team of staff and volunteers working in the Office, the incumbent would help to develop and implement strategies in all areas of the work of the Office. This includes participation in the discourses of society at the national level, developing the web presence of the UK Bahá’í community, and building relationships with the media, like-minded organisations, faith communities and the government, particularly in relation to the defence of the Bahá’ís in Iran.

The Office of Public Affairs strives to operate in a mode of learning, and building capacity in the members of the Office and the various collaborators who are assisting it is of great importance in all areas of its work. The most essential quality and attitude for anyone considering applying for this role is to have a humble posture of learning.

With that in mind, below are some skills and qualities that are useful for this work. Naturally, these would be developed and enhanced as we study and consult together and gain experience in the field:

  • A good understanding of the conceptual framework governing the current series of global Plans of the Faith and experience in applying its elements in the work of expansion and consolidation
  • Sound understanding of Bahá’í teachings and laws
  • A spirit of sacrificial service, willingness to consult on all matters and work both individually and as a team
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and good attention to detail
  • The ability to research and analyse information, general word processing skills and computer competence
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a diverse workload and to work calmly under pressure and with deadlines
  • Tact and wisdom in representing the UK Bahá’í community in a range of spaces
  • Loving encouragement and support of colleagues and others assisting with the public affairs work
